Red CalacArts Collective to Commemorate International Women's Day
5th Annual Celebration Held in Honor of Murdered Mexican Women

The Red CalacArts Collective presents the 5th Annual International Women's Day Celebration honoring the hundreds of women who have been murdered in Ciudad Juarez, México during the past decade. The event will take place on Friday, March 11, 2005 at 7:00pm at the Memorial Academy Auditorium (2850 Logan Ave., San Diego, CA 92113) in Barrio Logan.

The 5th Annual International Women's Day Celebration will feature work by female poets including Chicano Messenger of the Spoken Word and Def Poet Amalia Ortiz; Razor Edges of My Tongue author Leticia Hernández-Linares, soulful hip hop poetics by Able Minded Poet Irene Castruita; wild words by Chicana poetess and educator Marissa Raigoza; information on the women of Juarez by Comité de Mujeres Patricia Marin member Liz Ochoa, and MC'd by Red CalacArtista Sara Rebecca Durán Garibay.

Join the community of Barrio Logan, Memorial Academy, and the Red CalacArts Collective for an evening of socially conscious word in honor of the women of Ciudad Juarez, México.

This event is free, open to the public, and handicap accessible.

The Red CalacArts Collective, a project of the independent Chicano literary publisher Calaca Press, is a not for profit multidisciplinary arts and activist organization that focuses on creating, publishing, producing, and presenting Chicano, Latin American and indigenous related art focusing on issues dealing with human rights and social justice.
