The Red CalacArts Collective and the UCSD Chicano/a~Latino/a Arts and Humanities Program presents Waging Peace through Poetry on Friday, January 28, 2005 at 7:00pm at the Memorial Academy auditorium (2850 Logan Ave., San Diego, CA 92113) in Barrio Logan. This event is free and open to the public.
Waging Peace through Poetry will feature acclaimed author and performance artist Juan Felipe Herrera. Plus, poetry by Miguel-Angel Soria (Taco Shop Poets), Los Able Minded Poets (their CD, Collectively Introspective, was voted best Hip Hop album by the 2004 San Diego Music Awards), Rod Ricardo-Livingstone (Campesino Fingerprints) and Marissa Raigoza (the Central Chakrah Project).
Juan Felipe Herrera is the author of over 20 books including: Love After the Riots (1996), Border-Crosser with a Lamborghini Dream (1999), Crash Boom Love: A Novel in Verse (1999), and Notebooks of a Chili Verde Smuggler (2002) to name a few. His numerous awards include: the Ezra Jack Keats Award, the Hungry Mind Award of Distinction, the Americas Award, and the Focal Award. A former San Diegan, he currently resides in Fresno with his wife and children where he teaches creative writing at Fresno State.
